The Portfolio Committee on Rural Development and Land Reform will over the coming two days begin nationwide public hearings into the Extension of Security of Tenure Amendment Bill (ESTA). The first round of public hearings will be held in the Western Cape. The Bill seeks to address weaknesses and limitations that are there in the existing legislation by expanding rights of occupiers, further regulate evictions as well as clarifying certain terms.
