collective of Black Feminist Womxn have come together to share space and feelings in the passing of Mam’ Winnie Mandela. We are moved and inspired by a need to honour Mam’ Nomzamo’s life and legacy, to collectively mourn her passing and to defend her memory and life, in the face of the racism and the oppression of her as a womxn that followed her (and all of us) throughout her life and seeks to follow her in her death. We are also encouraged to create a space for feminist womxn to celebrate Mama Winnie without being subjected to the kinds of patriarchal narratives that have been circulating in the past week.
