Sassa has, in recent months, been earnestly involved in the process to migrate beneficiaries of social grants from the old Sassa card to the new gold card, in what has become popularly known as the card swap project. To achieve this, Sassa has partnered with the South African Post Office (SAPO) which will take over form Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) as the new service provider responsible for the disbursements of social grants. By the directive of the Constitutional Court SAPO is required to take over the process of disbursement of social grants form CPS, whose extended contract with Sassa expires on 31 September 2018. In spite of the progress made, there remains unjustified criticism from sceptics who continue to create panic among beneficiaries of social grants. Such critics create an impression that the transition from CPS to Sassa is laden with numerous logistical problems.
