On Thursday 28 July 2016, My Vote Counts (MVC) will hold a press briefing to announce new litigation to continue the fight against the secret funding of political parties. MVC is launching a High Court application to declare that the Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000 ("PAIA") is invalid and unconstitutional, for its failure to ensure voters have the right to know who the major funders of political parties are. This follows the judgment of the Constitutional Court in My Vote Counts v Speaker of the National Assembly, which was handed down last year. This announcement comes six days before the 2016 municipal elections, in which all major parties have refused to give basic information about their finances.
