On 27-28 August 2016 the 6th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) will be held in Nairobi, Kenya. This is the first time since TICAD’s inception in 1993 that this high-level dialogue will take place on African soil. This move is symbolic of a desire by Japan to shift its engagement with the African continent towards outcomes that garner greater win-win exchanges. In an attempt to promote a better understanding of the priorities behind the next TICAD meeting, the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) has invited HE Ambassador Shigeyuki Hiroki of Japan to present on and discuss some of the key priorities of the Japanese government in supporting a growing partnership with Africa.
