The Department of Science and Technology (DST) will launch an innovative toilet system near Stutterheim in the Eastern Cape, to improve sanitation in the water-scarce area. The event will take place on Saturday 12 November in the Jerseyville village. Known as, the ‘low pour flush system’, the sanitation technology is an off-grid invention that uses only two litres of water for one flush; it is low maintenance and has been demonstrated in 125 households. The system also allows the use grey water to flush.
